Carbon Division

Carbon Division

BMW M4

At Maxton Design, we have been creating our products since 2006. The experience acquired over these many years has allowed us to open the Carbon Division – a department that specializes in the production of carbon fibre aerodynamic elements, and other components. Over the last year, in our headquarters in Poland, where all Maxton Design products are made, we have built and obtained production facilities that utilize cutting-edge machinery, as well as highly trained specialists. We would be very happy to give you a closer look at the individual facets of the Carbon Division’s work.

Carbon Division

The processing of carbon fibre is a time-consuming procedure that includes multiple stages, and requires appropriate technology and specialized staff. Carbon fibre is characterized by high durability, as well as low weight, which is why it is commonly utilized in motorsports. At Maxton Design, we create our products with the idea to give everyone a chance to make upgrades and perform tuning on their car. And when it comes to carbon fibre - which is associated with prestigious racing events and not easily accessible – we wish to apply that idea, too. We would like to make carbon fibre elements a more common sight on the roads all across the world.

Production Stages

The car body is imaged with a highly efficient and accurate scanner. The result is a 3D model of the body. Based on such 3D model acquired from a scanned vehicle, our designer comes up with designs for new components.

With the use of CNC-processing machines, moulds are created – these will be utilized in the further stages of production. The moulds made using the CNC technology are precisely coated with carbon fibre.

Prepared in this way moulds are placed in a special furnace where the carbon fibre sheets harden and permanently take their given shape. This is how the final product mould is created.

BMW M4

A device called a plotter cuts the shape of the products out of the carbon fibre sheets based on a digital model. The resulting pieces are affixed in the mould. This procedure requires extreme precision and sensitivity

Next, these elements are covered in foil with a pressure valve. Then, they are placed in an autoclave, and hoses are connected to the valves.

BMW M4

An autoclave is a machine that maintains correct pressure. In the autoclave the elements are heated to 120°C under the pressure of 6 bars (this is over 2 times more than in a car wheel). The elements remain in the autoclave from several to several dozen hours. After the elements are taken out of the autoclave, the foil is removed and the finished products are extracted from the moulds.

These carbon fibre products require further manual processing. They need to be sanded, varnished and polished. Finally, the prepared splitters can be installed in the car.
