How do you know a splitter will fit?
You’ve found a splitter that looks exactly the way you imagined it on your model. The make is right, the model too. And yet something doesn’t match… a different model year, a different exhaust layout or a detail that’s easy to miss: a different styling package, a facelift or a replaced bumper.
Every part we make is based on a 3D scan of a specific car. That’s why it fits to the millimetre – but only on the version of the car it was designed for. So before you add a product to your basket, it’s worth spending five minutes checking a few things. You’ll find them all below, one by one.
01 Styling package: M Sport, S line, AMG Line, R-Line, FR
This is the most common trap. A BMW 3 Series with the M Sport package and a base BMW 3 Series are the same model on paper, but their bumpers have completely different shapes. The same goes for Audi S line, Mercedes AMG Line, Volkswagen R-Line and SEAT FR. A sports package means different air intakes, different body lines and a different lower edge of the bumper – exactly where the splitter is mounted.
That’s why our product names always include the package, for example “M-Pack” or “S-Line”. If you’re not sure which bumper your car has, check the equipment list with a VIN decoder or in your purchase documents. Don’t rely on the badges on the wings alone, as they’re easy to stick on. It’s the bumper that counts, not the badge. Once you know your version, choose your part from our front splitters or go straight for a complete Maxton Set.

02 Pre-facelift or facelift?
A facelift – which BMW calls LCI – is more than just new lights. Manufacturers very often change the bumpers at the same time, sometimes only slightly, sometimes completely. A difference of a few millimetres in the bumper line is enough for a part designed for one version not to fit the other.
In the product name you’ll find the label “Facelift”, “LCI” or “pre-LCI”, and in the description the range of years the part is intended for. Pay attention to your car’s production date, not just the year of first registration, because cars built around the turn of the year can be surprising. If the date falls close to the model update, compare the shape of your headlights and bumper with the photos on the product page.
03 Parking sensors, ACC radar and cameras
Modern cars carry a lot of electronics in their bumpers: parking sensors, adaptive cruise control radar, 360° camera systems. We design our parts to work with them, but not every configuration is the same. The radar may sit in the grille or low down in the bumper, and the camera can be in different places depending on the model year and specification.
Before you order a part, read the product description carefully. If a part has any limitations, that’s exactly where we mention them. Have a radar or camera in the lower part of the bumper and not sure whether anything will be covered? Better to ask before buying than after fitting.

04 Rear diffuser and exhaust system
At the rear, the exhaust is what matters. A diffuser has cut-outs made precisely for the tailpipes, so it has to match their number and layout. That’s why many of our diffusers come in several versions, for example for twin tips on one side or for tips on both sides.
Be especially careful if your car’s exhaust has been swapped for a sports system. Different tips often mean different spacing and diameter, and then the diffuser cut-outs won’t line up with them. Also check whether you have a tow bar, as some rear add-ons aren’t compatible with one. You’ll find this information in the product description too. See the full range in our rear add-ons category.
05 Non-original bumper or another brand’s body kit
We scan original factory bumpers. If your car has an aftermarket replacement fitted – a cheap “M-style” bumper, for example – or another manufacturer’s body kit, our part may simply not match its shape. Replicas can differ from the original in their lines, dimensions and mounting points, even if they look identical at first glance.
How can you check? Take a look at the inside of the bumper. Original parts usually carry the manufacturer’s markings and a part number. If the car has had bodywork repairs or you bought it already modified, it’s worth checking before you order a splitter. In that case we can’t guarantee the fit.
06 What if your model isn’t on the list?
Can’t find your car in our range? That’s not the end of the conversation. Fill in the “Can’t find your car? Submit it” form. Enter the make, model, version, generation, body type and year, add photos of the front, sides and rear, and tell us whether you’re interested in a full kit or a specific product. We review every submission and use them to decide on new projects.
We also have plenty of projects in progress, so your model may already be in the works. The easiest thing is to ask – you’ll find all the ways to reach us on our contact page. You can also book an appointment there to have parts fitted at our headquarters in Wojnicz.

07 Summary
A Maxton Design part fits to the millimetre because it’s based on a scan of a specific car. But that precision works both ways: for everything to line up, your car has to be the same version. Before you buy, check the styling package, the facelift, the electronics in the bumper, the exhaust system and whether the bumper is original. Five minutes that will save you returns, frustration and unnecessary trips to the garage. And if you still have doubts after all that, get in touch. We’d rather answer one question before you buy than have you run into a problem after fitting.
